Massey University, established in 1927 is one of New Zealand's largest universities with approximately 36,000 students (approximately 20,000 of whom are extramural students) and is one of New Zealand’s leading educational institutions. It has the country's largest business college but is also a leader in the fields of sciences, design, social sciences and education offering degrees in aviation, dispute resolution, veterinary medicine and nanoscience. Massey University is spread across a number of locations with the largest campus in terms of student numbers located in Palmerston North and the others in Wellington and Auckland. And with people under the age of 25 accounting for half of the town’s inhabitants, Palmerston North really is the quintessential university city.
